  • Half a teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Half a teaspoon ground cardamom

I have to admit – the first time I tried this I was not sure if this was ever something I would want to do again. The thought of raw eggs in my coffee did not at all intrigue me. But, I had to try it. I heard about it from American friends, and they are always ahead, right? ;)

Apparently adding raw egg yolks in your coffee is nothing new. There is a Vietnamese coffee that has been a traditional way of drinking coffee for years, it’s called a “ca phe trung”, but the difference to this egg latte coffee is, that the Vietnamese version also contains condensed milk, making it a sugar bomb.

When I talk to people about this Egg Latte recipe, they always stare surprised at me. Who would want to eat raw eggs – and is it even safe? I always get these questions.

No worries – the heat of the coffee (about 93 degrees Celsius) should be enough to cook the egg through. So, no worries about salmonella when consuming it.

So why would you add an egg to your coffee?

First of all, when adding the egg to coffee, it gives it a creamy and foamy texture that is really super delicious. Besides this, you get a carb-free coffee that can be used as a meal replacement or as an in-between snack. Either way, it is very delicious.

Steps:

  1. Heat your blender jar by filling it with hot water and leave it for a couple of minutes.
  2. Empty the jar and put in coconut oil, egg, butter, cinnamon and cardamom.
  3. Pour in the hot coffee and blend for approx. 30 seconds until you have a nice and foamy latte consistency.

Serve:

Pour in a glass and enjoy :)

Anything special to remember:

You can use any spices that you prefer. I like to change the version for some diversity. Try adding raw cocoa powder, vanilla powder or Sukrin Gold if you prefer your coffee sweet.

Benefits:

I wouldn’t as per se that coffee has any health benefits. In general, I suggest that you keep your coffee intake to a minimum. Anything that enhances you like coffee or alcohol should be only enjoyed in moderations. This way you keep your body clean and you feel how they affect your body.

When regularly consuming something, we tend to forget to feel how it affects our bodies and just do. With that said, I really love my morning coffee and because I just have that one coffee I enjoy it and I like to do something special with it, like turning it into this creamy egg latte coffee :)
